Scarlett Johansson

Biography

Born in New York City on November 22, 1984, Scarlett Johansson is the youngest of four siblings -- she has an older brother and sister, as well as a twin brother. As might be expected of an acting prodigy, Scarlett had an unusually early interest in performing: She wanted to be an actress since age 3, and was acting professionally when she was only 8 years old. After taking classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute for Young People, Scarlett Johansson made her stage debut in the early 1990s in the off-Broadway production of Sophistry, alongside Ethan Hawke.

Scarlett Johansson's first film role came in 1994's North, starring Elijah Wood, another child star survivor. The following year she played Sean Connery's daughter in the thriller Just Cause, and then in 1996 she appeared in If Lucy Fell and Manny & Lo. For the latter film, Scarlett Johansson was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress in 1997. That year she added Fall and Home Alone 3 to her burgeoning list of credits as well.

In 1998, Scarlett Johansson's career reached new heights. Cast as Grace MacLean, a young girl who suffers a tragic equestrian accident in The Horse Whisperer, Scarlett Johansson was generally acknowledged as the most promising part of an otherwise unenthusiastically received film. The 13-year-old actress picked up a Hollywood Reporter YoungStar Award for her work. Ironically, Scarlett Johansson was given an "introducing..." credit in The Horse Whisperer, even though she already had a half-dozen movies under her belt by then.

Building on the momentum of The Horse Whisperer, Scarlett Johansson appeared in My Brother the Pig (1999), and then costarred with Thora Birch in Terry Zwigoff's adaptation of the teen-angst comic book Ghost World in 2000.

The next year Scarlett Johansson turned heads once again with a provocative role in the Coen brothers' The Man Who Wasn't There. Also in 2001, Scarlett starred in An American Rhapsody, a Hungarian film about a girl who escapes from behind the iron curtain in the 1950s. Such serious fare was offset in 2002, with Scarlett Johansson's turn in the B-monster movie Eight Legged Freaks.

But 2003 would prove to be Scarlett Johansson's most successful year yet. She starred in Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation as a young girl staying in Japan who befriends a washed-up American actor, played by Bill Murray. Scarlett followed up Lost in Translation with Girl with a Pearl Earring in which she played the title role -- a struggling servant girl who becomes drawn into the world of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Both roles landed Scarlett Johansson Best Actress Golden Globe nominations in 2004, as well as a Best Actress BAFTA Award (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) for Lost in Translation.

With the 2004 teen comedy The Perfect Score, Scarlett Johansson demonstrated once more that she can take on lighter fare as well as serious roles. But she's used to dichotomy: Scarlett divides her time between New York, where her father lives, and Los Angeles, where her mother looks after her business interests.

In 2005, Scarlett Johansson appeared in two flicks -- Woody Allen's Match Point and The Island. She also endorsed the Calvin Klein perfume "Eternity Moment."

The following year she was named the face of L'Oreal and also had roles in The Black Dahlia and The Prestige alongside Christian Bale. If that weren't enough, Scarlett was the leading lady in Bob Dylan's music video "When the Deal Goes Down."

In 2007, Scarlett Johansson played Annie Braddock in The Nanny Diaries. Her spring advertising campaign for Reebok also came out. Her 2008 projects included He's Just Not That Into You, The Other Boleyn Girl and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Very few women in Hollywood have the allure and sexiness of Scarlett Johansson. Not only can she look hot in an array of hairstyles and ensembles, but she can really act, too. This is precisely why AskMen.com readers voted her No. 6 in the Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2008.

In 2008, Scarlett Johansson got engaged to her actor boyfriend Ryan Reynolds. The two had been rumored to be discussing the possibility of an engagement, however Scarlett Johansson's reps confirmed it in May.

Despite constantly moving across the U.S., Jessica Alba knew she wanted to be an actress from the age of 5. Her career was ready to take off when an agent signed her a mere nine months after 12-year-old Jessica took an acting class.

Jessica Alba's first film role in the 1994 film Camp Nowhere came to her by chance. She was cast with a bit part in the film after one of the characters dropped out of the production. Dark-haired Jessica was cast as the replacement, thanks to the fact that her hair matched that of the original actress.

She then ventured into smaller projects on the small screen with commercials for Nintendo and JC Penney, and a recurring role in Nickelodeon's The Secret World of Alex Mack in 1994.

Following her Nickelodeon stint, Jessica Alba, also a PADI-certified scuba diver, was cast as Maya in the 1995 series Flipper. During production of Flipper, Jessica was actually kidnapped after having received telephone threats. Thankfully, she was found unharmed in the trunk of a car.

While working with dolphins on the television series, Jessica Alba was cast in the disastrous film Venus Rising, as well as the 1996 made-for-TV movie Too Soon for Jeff and an episode of Chicago Hope.

jessica alba is dark angel
With Jessica Alba's growing popularity on the internet after her role in Flipper, along with her exotic looks (Jessica's ethnic background consists of Danish, French and Mexican), it's no wonder that James Cameron cast her as the lead role in his television series Dark Angel. These traits, of course, are bonuses next to the fact that she can act.

Jessica Alba has been featured in Teen Magazine and Vanity Fair, and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2001 for Best Actress in a Dramatic Television Series.

After a long engagement to her older costar Michael Weatherly (Logan on Dark Angel) from 2001 to 2003, Jessica Alba was spotted with Mark Wahlberg and even made a cameo on Wahlberg's show Entourage in 2004.

jessica alba is sweet as honey
The L'Oreal model (Jessica Alba is a Feria hair color spokesperson) returned to the scene with the title role in 2003's Honey. No one can forget the incredibly sexy moves Miss Alba learned for her role in the dance-centric flick. After her role as stripper Nancy Callahan in 2005's Sin City, Jessica Alba was seen in Into the Blue (2005) with Paul Walker and Ashley Scott. She also played the classic Marvel Comics character Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman) in the movie Fantastic Four (2005).

2006 was one filled with accolades, not for Jessica Alba's acting talents but more for her undeniable beauty. She was voted No. 1 in AskMen.com's 99 Most Desirable Women list, and she appeared on the cover of the March 2006 issue of Playboy. After Hef's publication used a promo shot for Into The Blue of Jessica without her consent, she pressed and later dropped charges after receiving a personal apology from Hugh Hefner who agreed to donate money to two of her favorite charities.

Her first all-Spanish album Como Ama Una Mujer was released in March; it zoomed straight to #1 on Billboard's Latin Album chart (where it stayed for 4 weeks) while also making a remarkable #10 debut on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart. This made history as the highest sales of a Spanish album debut. Como Ama Una Mujer has already sold 800,000 copies worldwide.

For the hotly anticipated new album Brave, Jennifer collaborated with producers like J.R. Rotem, Ryan Tedder, Middi Mafia and Bloodshy. The first single “Do It Well” is already heating up airwaves on all radio formats including Z-100 in New York City and KIIS and Power 106 in Los Angeles.

Jennifer has been busy promoting the film El Cantante in which she stars as Puchi, the wife of tragic salsa legend Hector Lavoe. Produced by Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions, El Cantante opened last week to rave reviews. Newsday wrote, “…the haunting beauty of the movie is the way it dramatizes the central figure of salsa music, the singer, who is burdened with carrying the hopes and dreams of his audience…”

Few artists have traveled so effortlessly from one artistic medium to another as Jennifer Lopez with her incredible array of talent as an acclaimed movie actress, a chart-topping musical artist and a fashion industry entrepreneur. Her trailblazing career boasts major box office hits, prestigious film nominations, the successful fashion line Sweetface by J.Lo, best-selling fragrances, and over 35 million albums sold worldwide.

Biography
Jennifer Lopez was born in New York City, on July 24, 1970. The daughter of David, a computer programmer, and Guadalupe, a kindergarten teacher, the young Lopez always dreamed of becoming a performer.

With talents in singing and dancing, Jennifer began performing in stage musicals, dancing in a European tour of Golden Musicals of Broadway, a Japanese tour of Synchronicity and local productions of Oklahoma and Jesus Christ Superstar.

jennifer lopez on in living color
The young girl from the Bronx finally became more recognized when she was cast as one of the Fly Girl dancers on FOX's In Living Color in 1993. What Lopez was really itching to do was act, but she stuck around on In Living Color for a short while, following producer Keenan Ivory Wayans' advice.

Jennifer's Fly Girl role led to more roles on the small screen. She landed a recurring role on FOX's short-lived series South Central (1994) and the TV series Second Chances (1993). Her portrayal of the part was so impressive that big-league producer Aaron Spelling wanted to continue the role on another one of his series, Malibu Shores. After appearing in a few episodes, Jennifer refused to develop the deal further (the show was axed anyway) with the hopes of taking her talents to the silver screen.

One more TV role can be seen on Jennifer's resume: Rosie the nurse in 1993's Nurses on the Line: The Crash of Flight 7. Her role in the 1995 film Mi Familia was the role that showed filmmakers that this Latin beauty was serious about acting.

One year later, Jennifer costarred with Robin Williams in the box-office disaster Jack, beating out Ashley Judd for the role. In her next film role, riding the Money Train with Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes, she was the only one to receive positive reviews in a film that may have well tipped off the tracks.

Having already worked with Jennifer in the critically acclaimed Mi Familia, Gregory Nava asked Lopez to audition for his 1997 biopic on the slain Tejano singer, Selena. After an intense auditioning process, Jennifer won the role that would make her a star.

That same year, Ojani Noa (her boyfriend at the time) publicly proposed to Jennifer at the wrap party for Selena, and she was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the film. She didn't end up winning the Golden Globe and her marriage to Ojani lasted less than a year.

Meanwhile, 1997 marked a full year for Jennifer, with film roles in U Turn, Anaconda and Blood and Wine. The following year, she costarred with George Clooney in Out of Sight playing U.S. Marshall Karen Sisco. This was the role that made Jennifer an A-list actress, beating out other A-list actresses for the role in the process. Her next project was as an animated ant in the DreamWorks feature Antz, also with Sharon Stone.

Not only was Jennifer the only Latin actress in history to demand a $1 million salary, but she also released an album entitled On the 6 in 1999, which went platinum and spawned such hits as "If You Had My Love" and "Waiting For Tonight."

After a role in the 2000 sci-fi flick The Cell, Jennifer Lopez returned to the music scene with her mega-successful sophomore album, J.Lo, in February 2001. While the album title (and probably P. Diddy's pet name for Jennifer) stuck, the album itself claimed the No. 1 spot on the charts on the strength of the first single, "Love Don't Cost A Thing."

jennifer lopez in the wedding planner
Jennifer also made history as the first female artist to have a No. 1 album and movie in the same week when The Wedding Planner debuted at No. 1 and had audiences rushing to see her in the starring role.

While her relationship with P. Diddy fizzled, J. Lo was seen in the arms of an unknown new man, Cris Judd. The couple met in January on the set of her "Love Don't Cost A Thing" video when Judd was one of the featured dancers in the video.

Jennifer also enjoyed the success of the singles "Play" and "I'm Real" (both an original and remix version with Ja Rule) off J.Lo. And, as if she hadn't dominated enough fields, she also started two fashion companies -- JLO by Jennifer Lopez and Sweetface -- in 2001 and 2005 respectively, and she has fragrances attached to her name: Glow, Still and Live.

jennifer lopez and cris judd
In 2001, after dating her backup dancer Cris Judd for less than eight months, the couple married in September 2001 -- only to divorce less than a year later. The settlement cost her $15 million.

In 2002, Jennifer won a World Music Award for World's Best-Selling Latin Female Artist, an MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video ("I'm Real" featuring Ja Rule), a VH1/Vogue Fashion Award for Most Influential Artist, and an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Female.

jennifer lopez in gigli
2002 was also the year when the term "Bennifer" was coined. Actor Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, who met on the set of the 2003 movie Gigli, began dating.

Unfortunately, although Jennifer won an American Music Award for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist in 2003, all the celebrations came to a halt when Gigli hit theaters worldwide and received unanimous negative reviews.

After a highly publicized romance (Affleck is even featured in her "Jenny From The Block" video off her 2002 This Is Me... Then album) that made the cover of every tabloid on a weekly basis, the couple ended their engagement in February 2004.

On the film front, Jennifer appeared in a small role in Kevin Smith's Jersey Girl (2004), starring Affleck, as well as in Shall We Dance (2004) with Richard Gere. In 2005, she added An Unfinished Life and Monster-in-Law to her resume.

jennifer lopez and marc anthony
On June 5, 2004, Jennifer Lopez made headlines again -- this time because she and Latin pop singer Marc Anthony exchanged vows in a surprise wedding. Although rumors of the nuptials were circulating, fans were still stunned to hear that J. Lo was on her third marriage.

At the 2005 Grammy Awards, Jennifer and Marc performed together for the first time as husband and wife. It was perfect timing, as J. Lo's fourth studio album, Rebirth, hit stores on March 1, 2005. The first single, "Get Right," climbed its way up the U.S. charts.

jennifer lopez as producer
Since marrying Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez has still stayed in the public eye. She appeared in and produced a number of films in 2006 and 2007, including The Singer and Bordertown.

Jennifer's status as a powerful celebrity hit its peak in 2007 as she ranked at No. 9 on Forbes magazine's list of The Richest 20 Women In Entertainment with an estimated wealth of $110 million. She was also listed by the 2007 Guinness World Records as the most powerful actress.

jennifer lopez releases como ama una mujer and brave

Jennifer Lopez officially released her first full Spanish-language album, called Como Ama una Mujer, in 2007, which was produced by husband Marc Anthony. She also came out with her fifth English album, Brave, in October of the same year. The track "Do It Well" quickly soared on the charts.

In 2007, Jennifer Lopez entered talks to appear in Austin Powers 4, Bordertown, and Love and other Impossible Pursuits.

At the 2007 American Music Awards Jennifer Lopez won Favorite Female Artist in the Latin Music category.

Jennifer Lopez also came in at No. 75 on AskMen.com's annual Top 99 Most Desirable Women.

In late 2007 she officially announced her pregnancy after much speculation.
