Amy Winehouse Hospitalized

Amy Winehouse was hospitalized on Monday afternoon (June 16) after she fainted at her London home due to unknown causes. At press time, the singer was still undergoing tests.

"Amy was at home this afternoon when she briefly fainted," read a statement from her U.S. publicist, Tracey Miller. "Fortunately, her manager's assistant was there to stop her falling. She quickly recovered, and her father, Mitch, took her to hospital as a precaution. Doctors are unsure of the cause of the incident, and Amy is currently undergoing tests. She may be kept overnight for observation."

Miller said no other information was available on Winehouse's condition or the cause of her fainting spell.

Before the incident, Winehouse, 24, had been signing autographs for Canadian fans who had been camped outsider her house all day, according to BBC News.

It is not the first health scare for the troubled singer, whose gaunt appearance, scratched-up arms and alleged drug abuse issues have caused concern for her well-being in the past. She was admitted to a London hospital last year suffering from what was called "severe exhaustion" amid reports that she was enrolled in a rehabilitation clinic to deal with drug abuse. She also checked into rehab in January.

The latest scare comes just a few days after Winehouse flew to Moscow for a reported $2 million to give a private concert at the opening of an art gallery run by the girlfriend of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich. Winehouse arrived in the Russian capital "in no condition to appear," according to the New York Daily News. When she did step in front of the microphone two hours after her appointed time, she did it "wobbling onto the stage down a red carpet lined with red lights, which guided her like a damaged aircraft down a runway," the paper reported. Eyewitnesses called her performance "sloppy."

Once she had shown up, Amy, 24, told the BBC, she was “very well” and “very excited and very flattered” to have won. She also wore a heart-shaped pin in her hair, with her husband Blake’s name on it.

She had received two nominations for best song, and one for best-selling song – only to lose to BeyoncĂ© and Shakira’s “Beautiful Liar.”

Other Winners
Other winners included Phil Collins, who was presented with his international achievement award by Robert Plant; songstress Gabriele, who won the outstanding song collection prize; and Mika, as songwriter of the year.

Mika, the Beirut-born, London-based “Grace Kelly” singer, 24, said that his new album has been on his mind “every morning, every night, every evening. I took a holiday. I lasted four days, I came back and went straight to work. It’s not the point where I can take a holiday now.”

We had a tune called ‘Spinderella,' which was great… but it was a long time ago.”

Although the group’s tenure was short-lived, Amy continued to pursue her interest in live performance by attending the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Marylebone at the age of 12. Unfortunately, the school’s classes failed to capture her interest and she was expelled the following year for “not applying herself.”
