Jessica Simpson Gives Up Pop For Country Music

It seems that Jessica Simpson’s switching from pop music genre to country music worked her for the best as she plans to stay on this side forever, the singer tells The Tennessean. Simpson, who plans to release her country album this Summer says she’s got a lot of compliments on the song “Come On Over” which brought her confidence and hopes her album, will do the same.

Meanwhile Jessica Simpson spent the last few days in Nashville attending the CMA Music Festival, where she promoted her new single.

I’m planning on making country [music] for the rest of my life, and I don’t want to go back to that other world. A lot of people have listened to ‘Come On Over’ and told me, ‘I really wanted to hate it, but I like it. It’s] a backhanded compliment, but I’m glad it’s that way and not the other way around. I take a lot of pride in my talent and in the record I was able to put together. I’m not giving up.

Jessica Simpson is Thrilled About New Country Album

Jessica Simpson, whose single “Come On Over” debuted at No. 41 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, is “thrilled” about her album.

“She said, ‘I feel like it’s my first album again,” according to a source close to the singer, who added that Simpson compared releasing a country song to starting her career and hearing herself on the radio for the first time.

The debut of “Come On Over” is the highest for a country music newcomer. It’s the first single from her upcoming country album, which is due out in the fall.

“It’s about that feeling you get when just can’t wait to see the person you’re crushing on,” Simpson says about her inspiration for the album. “You feel like you’re going to burst if you can’t see them right then and there.”

The man she’s crushing on – boyfriend Tony Romo – won’t be able to attend Nashville’s CMA Music Festival with her this week. But, the pair are happier than ever, according to the source who says: “Everything is good with them.”

Jessica Simpson Says Ashlee Will be an Amazing Mom

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz may be on their way to becoming first-time parents, but Ashlee’s older sister has no doubt the sort of mother her sibling will be.

“She’ll be amazing, absolutely amazing,” Jessica Simpson, 27, said in Las Vegas Saturday at the grand opening of Palms Place.

Jessica, who is dipping into the country-music scene, also says that her sister’s relationship with the Fall Out Boy bassist helps inspire her own music.

“They’re just the cutest couple in the world,” she says. “They are adorable. Anybody would wish to be them and you can only wish them well. Just being around them inspires love and everything I sing about.”

At the Vegas event, newlywed Ashlee, 23, never strayed far from her sister, as the two hung out in the VIP area and took photos together – several with Jess’s hand on her sister’s stomach – while Pete Wentz remained only a few feet away, playing DJ at the event.

Came the end of his two-hour set, Wentz, 28, thanked his “baby mama.”

Jessica Simpson's New Single is Released

Her romance with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may have overshadowed her singing career of late, but Jessica Simpson is back with a new single, the first off her upcoming country album.

The lighthearted, upbeat "Come On Over," airing on Jacksonville, Fla. radio station WQIK, features her breathy vocals over a steel guitar. (Visit wqik.com to hear the song.)

On the tune, she sings: "I need you now/ I need you bad/I need you baby looking just like that/Don't pack a bag/Don't make me wait/ I want to kiss that smile that's on your face/I need you wrapped up in these arms/ I want you just the way you are/Come on over."

Early feedback has been positive: in a poll on WQIK's Web site, of the more than 6,600 people who listened to the track, 58 percent gave it a thumbs up.

Simpson's record label says that she will be performing at fairs and festivals this summer in support of her country album, due out in September. Simpson's father told PEOPLE last year that the album will go back to her Texas roots. "She's a singer from top to bottom," Joe Simpson said. "And everything in the music business, especially pop music, has moved away from singers. And I think country is the only pure, storytelling kind of genre left."

Jessica and Tony's Dinner Date in Dallas

On Saturday, Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo looked every bit the happy couple at N9NE Steakhouse in Dallas. “They were holding hands, in a good mood and happy,” a source said. “They looked like they were on a date together.”

The public display of affection was in keeping with the couple’s last high profile date – Simpson’s sister Ashlee’s wedding, where they were “kissing and holding hands throughout the night.”

Simpson and Romo shared a cozy corner booth in the restaurant where they “looked happy and were laughing and smiling,” the source said.

Romo ate a Kobe burger while Simpson tucked into a steak.

They also ran into Romo’s Dallas Cowboys teammate Isaiah Stanback and his parents, and “stopped to say hello to a guest on their way out and played with her beautiful baby girl,” before leaving together, all smiles.

Jessica Simpson & Tony's Wedding Day PDA

What’s going on with Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo? While rumors of a split continue to swirl, the two attended Ashlee Simpson’s private weekend nuptials – looking anything but broken up.

Simpson and her NFL-star beau were spotted together Friday on a sushi run in L.A., and later he was by her side again during Ashlee’s rehearsal dinner, held at Jessica’s Beverly Hills home.

“They were very cozy and cute together,” said a source close to the couple, slamming Internet reports that Simpson was devastated to learn that her ex, John Mayer, has taken up with Jennifer Aniston. “She’s definitely not mourning John Mayer! She was in an amazing mood and so happy her sister was getting married.”

As for Saturday’s wedding and Alice In Wonderland-themed reception, Romo continued to shower the elder Simpson, 27, with attention, said the source.

“They were kissing and holding hands throughout the night,” added the insider. “He was very sweet to her. They were very much a couple.”

For the record, Jessica’s rep, Cindi Berger, has called the breakup talk “not true.

Jessica Taking Boyfriend Tony to attend Ashlee's Wedding

Despite break-up reports, Jessica Simpson will bring Tony Romo as her date to Ashlee Simpson’s weekend wedding, a source said.

Jessica, 27, will be maid of honor at her 23-year-old sister’s wedding to rocker Pete Wentz. A source close to Jessica says that Romo will be attending the event with Jessica.

Getting a head start, on Friday Jessica and Romo met for lunch at Katsuya in Hollywood. The Dallas Cowboys quarterback, dressed casually in shorts and sneakers, arrived at the restaurant in a cab for the lunch with Simpson, who wore a sexy black short-shorts and high heels. He greeted the singer with a kiss and helped her out of her Range Rover.

The lunch date comes as Simpson’s rep denies newspaper and Internet reports that Romo and Simpson have broken up. “It’s not true,” rep Cindi Berger says.

JESSICA SIMPSON

Biography

Jessica Ann Simpson was born in Dallas, Texas, on July 10, 1980, and grew up in the small town of Richardson. Her life was textbook happy and included her father Joe, who was a psychologist and also served as youth minister in the local Baptist church (he later went on to not only become Jessica's manager, but her sister's manager as well).

With this background, it was only normal for young Jessica to participate in church activities and so she sang in the choir. Such was her gift that at the age of 12, she auditioned for The Mickey Mouse Club.

When she reached the finals, she froze and choked completely. Unfortunately, she didn't get the job.

She returned to Richardson, Texas, and bit into the Christian music she had been brought up with. Her father Joe (now her manager) took his daughter on the road, where they worked the Christian Youth Conference circuit. Jessica Simpson sang and sold her home-recorded album after performances. This was a winning formula and while she was still in junior high, Jessica was performing with famous gospel acts like Kirk Franklin and Ce Ce Winans.

It wasn't only Christian music fans who got into her music; pop lovers everywhere were being charmed by her voice. This was just the encouragement Jessica needed to pursue a middle-of-the-road pop music career. Sure enough, news of Jessica's success reached important people in the industry. Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records/Sony Music was one of them and he was stunned by Jessica Simpson's voice and skills.

Mottola believed she had the talent to reach mainstream audiences. Still, Jessica Simpson made it clear that she would only be onboard if she could maintain her identity. Luckily, Mottola understood what she believed in and supported her decision.

After signing up with the music giant, her debut album, Sweet Kisses, was released in 1999, giving way to the singles "I Wanna Love You Forever" and "I Think I'm In Love With You." She then hit the road and showed audiences worldwide what the Jessica Simpson craze was all about.

She joined boy band 98 Degrees on its tour and it didn't take long for her to fall in love with one of its members, Nick Lachey. Their budding romance only helped the release of their duet, "Where You Are," off Sweet Kisses.

In June 2001, her sophomore album Irresistible was released. The title track was a smash hit and it went as high as No. 3 on the Top 40 chart. After some remixes, her third album In This Skin was released in August 2003. However, Jessica Simpson's life was about to take a drastic turn.

After a short breakup, Jessica and Nick finally got married in October 2002, and the celebrity marriage was rejoiced in gossip columns everywhere. As a result, MTV offered the couple a reality show based on their everyday life as a couple, much like The Osbournes.

The deal was struck and August 2003 marked the debut of Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica. Although the show overshadowed Jessica Simpson's new album, it became an incredible hit and it was picked up for second and third seasons.

Since the world couldn't seem to get enough of their goofy antics, the couple was offered a TV variety special reminiscent of The Sonny and Cher Show.

Around the time of her marriage to Nick, Jessica Simpson appeared in three episodes of That '70s Show (between 2002 and 2003) as Kelso's love interest. She also appeared on The Twilight Zone in 2002, all of which led the way for her 2005 big-screen debut wearing sexy "Daisy Dukes" in the film version of The Dukes of Hazzard (costarring Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott). The film coincided with the release of Jessica Simpson's remake of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking." In 2006, she appeared in Dane Cook's hilarious film Employee of the Month.

At the dawn of Jessica Simpson's budding film career she and Nick Lachey filed for divorce, which was finalized in June 2005 on the basis of irreconcilable differences. On the heals of her divorce, she released her fifth album, A Public Affair, in 2006.

In 2006, Jessica Simpson started dating musician John Mayer and they were together for over nine months. The couple hooked up at Christina Aguilera's New Year's Eve party and were spotted months later as affectionate as can be at a post-Grammy bash. They split up in May 2007. And in November 2007, Jessica Simpson began dating Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo.

She signed on to take the lead in two 2008 movies -- The Love Guru and Major Movie Star -- and she also began working on her first country album. And because of all her hard work and penchant for staying in the spotlight, the beautiful Jessica Simpson ranked at No. 47 on AskMen.com's Top 99 Most Desirable Women of 2008 list.
